The Real History of SWAN
The history of SWAN has little to do with what you see on this site or the card
you have in your wallet. The real history begins with the bonds that are formed by work that is not exactly
the most glamorous of summer jobs. The history begins when you are sitting on a curb -somewhere thousands of miles
away from home - wondering why you ever chose to sell door to door - yet somewhere inside you found the strength to
go on and finish the summer.
Along with the other finishers, you do what seems the impossible and end up in
Nashville celebrating your success along with the other “finishers”. The SW alumni network started right there
for you and has been happening now for over 100 years. The idea of formalizing this network is nothing new –
relationships, friendships, partnerships, and even marriages have been the by-product of book selling for many
years! The connective power of the internet has now propelled the possibilities for a network of alumni to greater
heights then anyone ever dreamed.
We did not create SWAN, rather, the big-hearted, faithful men and women that sold
books door to door created it. We simply named it. That is SWAN - formalizing, systematizing, and organizing
something that already existed in these courageous alumni. We believe that alumni need to be treated as REAL
clients that deserve to gain REAL value. We believe this is most effectively accomplished when created and
maintained by alumni themselves.
There are over 100,000 alumni, consider this -
- What if there was a virtual place that 20,000 members could find each other?
- What if there was a myriad of entrepreneurial resources designed for SW alumni?
- Who would want to market to this group?
- What kind of group benefits could we receive?
- What if there were 20,000 members that could share resumes with each other?
- Why not leverage our numbers to achieve the best value possible for the necessities of life?
- What is possible???
A few of us put our heads, wallets, and time together and have developed this site
as a place to connect. We hope you really do “connect to your past - and leverage your future” through it.
This network is not ABOUT you - it is FOR you.
